June 16, 2004 -- I made it to East St. Louis, Illinois late this afternoon. I deliver a load of candy in nearby Granite City, Illinois, another St. Louis suburb.

I was able to finally meet my friend Skip that lives here in St. Louis. Skip and I have been emailing back and forth for a while now but this is the first chance we've had to meet each other in person.

We went to the St. Louis Gateway Arch and and went up inside it. I've driven by the Arch hundreds of times over the years but this is the first opportunity I've had to actually be a tourist and check it out. It's one of the most recognizable symbols of cities worldwide, right up there with the Statue of Liberty, The Golden Gate Bridge, Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower.
